On All Saints Day. . .

On November 1, let’s start saluting our ancestors, and thenceforth make it a daily or weekly habit. We have a saying that before you can love others, you must first love yourself. By extension, when you love and honor your ancestors, you also love yourself because your ancestors are you, and you are your ancestors. For starters, you put up a shrine for the ancestors, where you offer them water, which is basic, and the other ancillary things like a cup of coffee, a slice of cake, candy, or any food that you wish to offer. It also helps if you know the primary ancestor spirit that is in your court. In my case, I had to have an ancestor investigation, which added to my appreciation of whom to dialogue with. Yes, dialogue, because the primary ancestor spirit is a conscious being, albeit ensconced in a different dimension.

Towards Enlightenment: An Ancestor Reading

In this day and age of strange viruses threatening human annihilation and of albino animals popping up, the way to preserve one’s sanity is to go inside oneself to see what lurks in there, the better to determine one’s sense of purpose.Which was why I had this ancestor reading consultation with Ancestor Healing, who is the go-to guy for such divination. Ancestor healing has this innate ability to connect with your ancestors and derive an enlightening reading. The way I understand it, Ancestor Healing’s ancestors connect with your ancestors to come up with a road map for your life, which you will absorb and implement after the reading. In my case, what came out were the following.1. From my conception and birth my great, great, great, great grandmother from my mother’s side has been there, but it is only now that I have been made aware of the fact. This grandmother was well versed in magick and was so domineering and assertive to her wards–the quintessential protector. Now I have to thank her for the countless sanctuaries she has given me from all the vagaries of life. The reading also offered that I have this natural ability to connect to the spirit world and am a natural psychic and that I create things of beauty( hmmm. . .). Also, that my purpose in life is to elevate the ancestors and be of service to my tribe or clique.

Who is Osayin?

One of our favorite orishas is Osayin, the King of Herbs. Having met him once in the forests of Guinarona, Philippines, our destinies have become intertwined in a manner of speaking. Meeting him means his footprints–utterly fresh and alive in the wet sod–leading us towards home–footprints of only the left foot! We recall that he is called Timawa in our province of Leyte and were told that the being was diabolic. Only that Osayin is not that. On the contrary, he is gentle and approachable. And he does appear to us through photographs.

Who Art Thou?

At lot of times has it been bandied about that one has to know oneself. As in, who am I in my deepest core?In the African tradition, there is the concept of ancestors, namely people who have passed on and who have your DNA. According to Dr. Jeremy Narby DNA has been present for 5 Billion years, and that’s how far man’s ancestors have evolved. Also as per African tradition, one can determine or divine the identity of one’s guedes (ancestors guiding one’s life) through an experienced shaman. So that, as part of our predilection for getting to know our spiritual DNA. we have had an African shaman do it for us, as follows:
